More than 50 senior citizens from North Buffalo and surrounding neighborhoods attended a “Senior Scam Prevention Seminar” this week hosted by New York State Senator Chris Jacobs (60th SD). The free seminar was held at the Northwest Buffalo Community Center on Wednesday September 13th.

Along with Senator Jacobs, the seminar was sponsored by the Better Business Bureau and AT&T.

SENIOR ADVISORY BOARD

The Northwest Buffalo Senior Advisory Board and guests attended the annual City of Buffalo Common Council Senior Ball. The dinner took place on Sunday September 10th at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. The seniors attended compliments of Council Member Joseph Golombek. Entertainment, raffles and lots of pictures were taken to make the evening a memorable one.

FREE BACKPACKS

The United Way of Buffalo partnered with the Buffalo Bills and Eaton Office Supply to giveaway backpacks and school supplies to 150 participants of the Northwest Buffalo Community Center Youth Department. The Buffalo Bills players took photos with the kids and were available for autographs. Afterwards the children went out on the football field and enjoyed playing football with the players.

Summer Learning Day is an annual advocacy day led by the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) to elevate awareness of the importance of keeping kids learning, safe and healthy every summer.

The Northwest Buffalo Community Center Summer Camp went to Niagara Falls Cave of the Winds, Maid of the Mist and Niagara Aquarium. These field trips are made possible through a grant from the Erie County Prime Time and the Buffalo Bills Foundation. The program operates from July 5th through August 25th 2017.

ERIE COUNTY SENIOR SERVICES PICNIC

44 of our Northwest Seniors attended the annual Erie County Senior Services picnic held Thursday August 3rd in Lancaster. There were over 400 seniors from all over Erie County enjoying games, dancing, raffles and plenty of food served all day. Seniors who attended the picnic were given Northwest t-shirts, courtesy of Executive Director Larry Pernick, to show off their Northwest pride.
